Pleasanton, KS

Pleasanton is a Linn County city in eastern Kansas, about 67 miles south of Kansas City. The 2020 census counted 1,208 residents. Its name sits close to a major Kansas Civil War site: General Alfred Pleasonton defeated Confederate forces at the Battle of Mine Creek in 1864, a fight involving roughly 25,000 men. The battlefield is 2.5 miles southwest of town.

Mine Creek State Historic Site preserves the battlefield with a museum and self-guided walking tour, while the Linn County Museum and Genealogy Library keeps Pleasanton's own stories in town. Two smaller collections - the Pleasanton Antique Car Museum and Carpenter's Ol' Iron Motorcycle Museum - add a mechanical thread to the local calendar.
