About Plover
Plover is a Pocahontas County city with 50 residents and 36 housing units in the 2020 Census. The city’s history records that the railroad through the township was completed in 1882 and that the railroad president named Plover for a common bird seen along the route. An early post office, general store, creamery, and grain elevators followed, giving the town a service role in the surrounding farm country. Iowa’s Secretary of State lists Plover’s incorporation on October 13, 1916, while the city history notes that its 1888 Presbyterian church later became the library and town hall. Plover’s story is rail, trade, and civic reuse.
