Just keep in mind that many city neighborhoods fall into historic districts, meaning exterior home renovations often require approval from the local historic district commission.

One unique quirk of Plymouth is that it actually has two distinct commercial districts separated by active railroad tracks. To the south is the Main Street corridor and Kellogg Park, where you will find most of the weekend foot traffic, outdoor dining, and retail. Just north of the tracks sits Old Village, a charming historic pocket with vintage brick storefronts, neighborhood pubs, and craft breweries. Because freight rail lines still cross through town in four directions, locals quickly learn how to navigate around blocked crossings when a train rolls through. It is part of the area's railroad heritage, giving Plymouth a distinct character whether you are grabbing lunch in Old Village or strolling down Main Street.

Community events keep the center of town lively throughout the year. Kellogg Park hosts Friday night Music in the Air concerts all summer, alongside a busy Saturday farmers market from spring through fall. The town also packs in major regional traditions like Art in the Park, the Plymouth Fall Festival, and the winter Ice Festival that fills the square with elaborate ice carvings. Day to day, residents get plenty of use out of the Plymouth District Library and the ice rink at the Cultural Center.
