About Point Comfort
Point Comfort sits on the east side of Lavaca Bay, two miles across the water from Port Lavaca in Calhoun County. The city was established in the early 1950s and incorporated on July 11, 1953; its post office opened in 1955. The 2020 census counted 603 residents. State Highway 35 crosses the city, with Port Lavaca to the southwest and Palacios to the east. The bay and the highway make the city’s geography easy to read: industry and shipping on one side, water and coastal roads on the other.
Point Comfort grew alongside aluminum and chemical plants, and the city built basic civic pieces in the 1950s, including a fire station, public swimming pool, and library. Calhoun County Independent School District serves the area, while the Port Lavaca–Point Comfort port keeps the shoreline tied to the region’s working waterfront. Point Comfort is a small coastal city with an industrial past, a bayfront setting, and a road map that keeps it close to Port Lavaca and the wider Victoria area.
