About Point
Point is a small Rains County city at the junction of U.S. 69 and Farm Roads 47 and 514, about eight miles northwest of Emory and roughly an hour east of Dallas. Its streets sit in the open country between the Sabine River and Lake Tawakoni, with the highway junction doing the practical work of connecting farms, schools, businesses, and the county seat. The city was already in place when Iron Bridge Dam was built on the Sabine in 1957, creating Lake Tawakoni and bringing the reservoir within a few miles of town.
Lake Tawakoni changed the weekend map. The reservoir supports boating, fishing, camping, and shoreline trips, while Point itself keeps the town side moving through City Hall, Rains ISD, local churches, and small businesses. The city's current calendar includes council business, permits, and community notices, giving the lake story a municipal counterweight. Point feels like a North Texas crossroads with water nearby: roads set the workday, the lake sets the recreation, and Emory handles the larger county errands.
