Pomeroy, WA

At 1,855 feet between the Blue Mountains and the Palouse, Pomeroy is Garfield County's seat and the only incorporated city in the county. Established in 1864 and incorporated in 1886, it sits along Pataha Creek on U.S. 12, the main road linking the Palouse, Walla Walla, and the Lewiston-Clarkston area. A ten-block Downtown Pomeroy Historic District preserves the county-seat core, while the Denny Ashby Library, Garfield County Museum, hospital district, and Pomeroy School District keep civic, educational, and medical services in town. Agriculture remains the main local industry, with health care, education, tourism, and service work filling out the county-seat economy. Pioneer Day and the Tumbleweed Festival arrive in June, followed by the county fair and winter events. Pomeroy is a high-Palouse county seat where wheat-country work, local services, and old brick downtown blocks meet.
