Port Allegany, PA

Set along Route 6 between Smethport and Coudersport, Port Allegany is a small river town in the Allegheny foothills. Settlers originally called it Canoe Place back in 1816, when travelers stopped to build and patch canoes before heading down the Allegheny River. Later on, the town grew into a manufacturing community, turning out Pittsburgh Corning glass and an unexpected local favorite: Cameo Kewpie dolls through the mid-1900s. Today, that combination of river roots and unique small-town heritage gives the borough a grounded, distinctive feel.
