Port Clinton, OH

Port Clinton is the Ottawa County seat, located where the Portage River enters Lake Erie about 34 miles southeast of Toledo. The 2020 census counted 6,025 residents, and the city is the center of the Port Clinton micropolitan area. Established in 1828, it was named for New York governor DeWitt Clinton, whose work on the Erie Canal helped connect Great Lakes trade with the Hudson River and New York. Lake Erie's western basin is known for walleye fishing, a connection reflected in Port Clinton's "Walleye Capital of the World" nickname and its downtown New Year's Eve Walleye Drop.
