About Port Dickinson

Port Dickinson is a Broome County village on the Chenango River, built around the canal port that gave it its name. The Chenango Canal opened in the 1830s and brought stores, hotels, mills, a pickle factory, and a broom factory; the canal closed in 1878, and many factories and mills closed or moved. Port Dickinson incorporated in 1876 and honors New York senator Daniel S. Dickinson. Wilfley Community Park now occupies reclaimed floodplain beside the river.
