Port O'Connor, TX

Port O’Connor is a Calhoun County census-designated place on the Texas coast between Galveston and Corpus Christi. It began as the fishing settlement of Alligator Head, then was replatted and renamed Port O’Connor in 1909 for landowner Thomas M. O’Connor. The railroad reached town in 1910, helping the new townsite develop around the bays and Gulf shoreline. The area’s history keeps one foot in cattle and land development and the other in fishing, with Matagorda and Espíritu Santo bays shaping the map. The local shorthand is Alligator Head, O’Connor, railroad townsite, and a Calhoun County fishing port.
