Port Vue, PA

Port Vue is a borough in Allegheny County along the Youghiogheny River, just south of McKeesport and close to the river's meeting with the Monongahela. It separated from Lincoln Township in 1891, when about 500 residents met in a schoolhouse on the old Edmundson farm to organize a borough. They first considered Grandview; Port Vue won because people in McKeesport could look across toward the port on the Youghiogheny. That name still gives the place its orientation: a compact river borough in the Pittsburgh area, bounded by McKeesport, Liberty, and Glassport. South Allegheny School District serves local students, and borough government operates from Romine Avenue. Port Vue is the kind of place whose local story is easiest to read from one meeting, one river, and a name chosen to describe the view from the neighboring city.
