About Poseyville

Poseyville began as Palestine, laid out by James Smith in 1840 along the New Harmony–Princeton coach line. When the first post office opened in 1843, the name changed because another Indiana Palestine already had a post office. That bit of naming history still gives the town a clear orientation: Poseyville grew as a stopping point on a route through northern Posey County, then filled out a Main Street center with the institutions of a small county town.

Today the municipal map includes a community center, parks department, fire department, water and wastewater operations, and the Poseyville Carnegie Public Library. The library’s programs and local-history role extend beyond books, while the annual Autumnfest brings a parade of community organizations, businesses, and school groups through downtown each fall. Poseyville also remains tied to the larger North Posey school system and surrounding farm roads. Its most useful local markers are practical ones—a library, a park, a fire station, a festival route, and the old coach-line town center.
