Powell, TN

Powell sits just north of Knoxville in a scenic valley framed by Beaver Ridge and Copper Ridge, stretching along Emory Road between Karns and Halls. Daily life here generally revolves around two distinct hubs. To the west is the historic heart of town, Powell Station, where you will find the high school, local businesses, the library, and neighborhood parks. A few miles east, the busy Interstate 75 interchange brings together grocery stores, restaurants, big box retail, and medical centers. Because Powell is an unincorporated part of Knox County, neighborhoods vary widely, ranging from quiet subdivisions nestled along the ridges to convenient pockets right near the main commuter routes.

Powell grew up around a nineteenth-century railway depot and gradually evolved from rural farmland into one of Knox County's most established suburbs. Traces of that history remain woven into the community today. DeRoyal Industries maintains its global headquarters and medical manufacturing facilities right off Emory Road, while the former Levi Strauss apparel factory now serves as the campus for Crown College. Having these major employers and institutions based locally gives Powell a steady economic base alongside its residential neighborhoods.

When it comes to getting outside and connecting with neighbors, Powell Station Park is the main hub. Located right by the high school, it offers walking trails, a disc golf course, a popular splash pad, and access to the Powell Greenway along Beaver Creek, where locals enjoy walking and paddling. Down the road, the Powell Branch Library hosts regular children's programs, book clubs, and community sales throughout the year. Between the parks, youth sports leagues, and packed high school football games on Friday nights, Powell maintains a friendly, small-town atmosphere while keeping you only fifteen minutes from downtown Knoxville.
