About Powers Lake

Powers Lake is a quiet, close-knit town of around 400 people nestled in northwestern North Dakota's White Earth Valley. The area traces its name back to John J. Power, a rancher who raised sheep along the southern shore in the 1890s. His family eventually moved on, but the name stayed with the lake and the community that formed around it. Today, it offers a peaceful rural setting surrounded by open prairie and scenic farmland.

The town itself took off in 1909 when the Great Northern Railway expanded its line through Burke County toward Canada. Settlers quickly built homes and businesses along the lake's north shore, establishing a central hub for area farm families.
