About Powersville
Powersville was platted in 1887 as the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad reached northwest Putnam County, and the village took its name from landowner Israel Powers. The State Historical Society of Missouri records that Powers opened the first store for railroad construction workers, linking the town's name to its origin as a rail work camp and supply point. Missouri Route E runs west from Route 139, with Lucerne south and the Iowa line two miles north. Putnam County R-I serves the school area, so Powersville's current map is a compact village between county roads, the border, and its rail route.
