Powhatan, AR

Powhatan is a historic town and the site of Powhatan Historic State Park in Lawrence County, Arkansas, situated along the Black River. During the nineteenth century, the community was a vital shipping port for steamboat traffic and a ferry crossing. The park preserves the historic 1888 courthouse, which served as the county seat of government for a century, alongside the building that housed the town's first telephone exchange.
