About Premont

Premont is a Jim Wells County city on U.S. 281, about 27 miles south of Alice and nine miles north of Falfurrias. Its land history reaches back to the Los Olmos y Loma Blanca grant, issued to Ignacio de la Peña in 1831 and covering a huge stretch of South Texas. Premont later became a small highway city with a straight-line relationship to the surrounding ranch country, while today’s U.S. 281 corridor is being folded into the I-69 Texas system. Premont is South Texas in corridor-town form.
