About Prescott

Prescott is a Nevada County seat laid out in 1873 as a railroad stop on the Cairo & Fulton line, on the open prairie known as Prairie D’Ane. The town grew where the railroad met the older Southwest Trail, and that combination of rail, road, and county government still gives downtown its shape. The Prescott Commercial Historic District includes the courthouse, post office, and former city jail, while the surrounding Prairie D’Ane landscape opens into the Arkansas Timberlands. The city also holds onto a more local calendar through its Fall Festival and Trade Days. Prescott is the kind of south Arkansas place where the county seat, railroad, and prairie all show up in the first paragraph.
