About Prices Fork
Prices Fork is a Montgomery County census-designated place about three miles west of Blacksburg and Virginia Tech, built around an old fork in the road. German immigrants began settling the German New River area before 1745, and the Price, or Preisch, family gave the community its name. The historic district grew along Pepper’s Ferry Road where it split from Brown’s Ferry Road; the Virginia Department of Historic Resources describes it as a linear village whose surviving buildings largely date from the 1870s onward. The James Bain Price House, the adjoining store, Price’s Fork Methodist Church, and the former St. Mark’s Lutheran Church sit within that historic story. Prices Fork remains a rural crossroads close to a major university, with the old store-and-road pattern still doing most of the local work.
