Proberta, CA

Proberta is a Tehama County census-designated place just south-southeast of Red Bluff in the Sacramento Valley. The 2020 census counted 237 residents. Edward Proberta laid out the community in 1886, and the post office has operated there since 1888. Those dates give Proberta its scale: a named stop with a mail counter and a few roads, set inside a county where ranching, farming, and timber production shape the wider economy. The warm-summer Mediterranean climate fits the valley floor, but the place feels more agricultural than resort-oriented.

Tehama County's larger recreation map—fishing, boating, hunting, trails, and higher-elevation snow—sits beyond the small settlement, while Red Bluff is just south as the nearby town-scale counterpart. Proberta's local identity comes from the contrast between a very small post-office community and the broad working landscape around it.
