About Prudenville

Prudenville is the Houghton Lake-side community in Roscommon County, sitting within Denton Township on the lake’s southeast shore. Its name has had a small paperwork detour: the post office opened as Prudenville in 1875, changed to Edna the next year, and eventually returned to Prudenville. The post office is still on West Houghton Lake Drive, where the town’s everyday business meets a summer-lake setting. Prudenville is as much shoreline map as crossroads address, with Houghton Lake doing most of the introducing.
