Pueblo West, CO

Pueblo West is not an incorporated city; it is a census-designated community where Pueblo County governs and the Pueblo West Metropolitan District supplies local services. The district was formally founded on September 16, 1969, on land long used by Ute and Comanche people and later for ranching supported by Arkansas River water. By the 2020 census, 33,086 residents occupied a footprint of roughly 49 square miles. U.S. 50 crosses the community about seven miles west of Pueblo, while Lake Pueblo State Park follows much of its southern edge. That reservoir makes a major public landscape part of Pueblo West's immediate surroundings. Colorado Parks and Wildlife reports more than 4,600 surface acres of water, 60 miles of shoreline, 15.4 miles of trail, two multi-lane boat ramps, and recreation that includes fishing, sailing, motorboating, waterskiing, and river tubing.

The metropolitan district maintains another 27-plus miles of mixed-use trails through the community, along with equestrian easements that were part of Pueblo West's original design. Civic Center Park is the district's recurring event ground: the Pueblo West Market, summer concerts, Oktoberfest, July Fourth activities, and Holiday in Lights use the park, which also has a seasonal splash area, tennis courts, a skatepark, playground, and dog park. Cattail Crossing provides a smaller, specialized alternative—a 3.75-acre pond park developed for anglers age 15 and younger and people with disabilities, with fishing slabs, shelters, and a roughly one-mile loop.
