Purcell is a city and the county seat of McClain County, Oklahoma, situated on the banks of the Canadian River. Founded in 1887 as a railroad town named for railway official Edward Purcell and hosting Amtrak's Heartland Flyer passenger service, the community of approximately 6,803 is served by the Purcell Public Schools district for public education.
