Queen City, TX

Queen City is a Cass County city at the junction of U.S. 59 and several farm roads in eastern Texas, about seven miles west of the Texas-Arkansas line and just south of Atlanta. The 2020 census counted 1,397 residents. Queen City ISD, the Bulldogs, Main Street businesses, city services, and the highway toward Texarkana give the town its everyday map. Farming, forestry, oil, and regional commuting all meet around a place that grew as a railroad stop.

Queen City was founded in 1877 on the Texas and Pacific Railway, with a post office that same year. By 1885 it had churches, a district school, sawmills, a gristmill, and general stores; an iron foundry came and went, while lumber drove the early economy. The Rodessa oilfield and the growth of nearby Atlanta helped the town recover after an earlier population decline. U.S. 59 carries larger trips north to Texarkana and south to Atlanta. Queen City is an old railroad village whose school district and highway links still hold the local center together.
