Quinton, OK

Quinton is a Pittsburg County town in the foothills between the Ozarks and Sans Bois Mountains. It began as Alexander Gap, then received the name Quinton after local Choctaw leader Martha E. Quinton. The post office opened in March 1902, the same year the Fort Smith and Western Railroad arrived and settlement increased. The 2020 census counted 863 residents. The post office and railroad arrived while the area was still Indian Territory. That timing matters.

Quinton’s main street map still carries that early-town mix: highway, post office, small businesses, library, and the old railroad story. The town’s current center includes local shops and services alongside the Quinton Library and Choctaw Nation District 6 field office. Quinton also carries the older Choctaw Nation landscape in its civic connections and local names. Quinton is a place where the name honors a local Choctaw figure, the town grew through a railroad connection, and modern daily errands still fit inside a small Oklahoma center.
