Quitman, AR

Quitman is a city spread across Cleburne and Faulkner counties in north-central Arkansas. The 2020 census counted 694 residents. Arkansas Highway 25 runs through town, leading northeast toward Heber Springs, the Cleburne County seat, and southwest toward U.S. 65 and Greenbrier. That split-county location gives Quitman an unusual civic map, with the town reaching across the county line while keeping one school district and one local center. The county line is part of everyday geography.

Quitman began as part of Van Buren County and later became part of the two counties that meet here. Local men formed the Quitman Rifles during the Civil War, and the city’s older history carries that wartime chapter alongside the ordinary work of a county-line town. Quitman School District leads students through Quitman High School. Today the highway, school, and two-county boundary still define the place: a small Arkansas city with one foot in Cleburne County, one in Faulkner County, and its daily life tied to both.
