Radcliffe, IA

Radcliffe grew out of the railroad: the town was laid out in 1880 when the line reached this point, and its name came from Charlotte Mary Yonge's novel The Heir of Redclyffe. Isabella Street carries the practical center today, with an elevator, corner market, restaurant and bar, repair shops, a bank, telephone and cable service, and other small businesses lining the address list. The city also keeps a community center available for birthdays, holidays, and local gatherings. The old rail town still has a main street you can read by the services clustered along it.

Radcliffe's school connection runs through Hubbard-Radcliffe Elementary on Isabella Street, with South Hardin Middle in Hubbard and South Hardin High in Eldora. The district's name keeps Radcliffe joined to Hubbard, while the middle and high school buildings serve a broader group of nearby towns.
