Rainier, WA

Tucked into the open prairie south of Olympia, Rainier offers a quiet, small-town atmosphere with around 2,400 residents. Originally founded as a 19th-century logging stop along the railroad, it has settled into a relaxed rural community where you can find larger lots and a slower pace. Highway 507 cuts right through town, giving residents a straightforward 25-minute drive into the state capital as well as easy access to neighboring Yelm and Tenino.

Daily life revolves around the outdoors and local community gatherings. The paved Yelm-Rainier-Tenino Trail runs directly through town, making it easy to hop on a bike or take an evening stroll under the trees. Families appreciate having the elementary, middle, and high schools clustered right in town, while Wilkowski Park and the annual Rainier Roundup Days festival give neighbors plenty of reasons to get together.
