Ramblewood, PA

South of State College, the Ramblewood census-designated place sits within Ferguson Township, Centre County, inside the larger Happy Valley and Nittany Valley region. The area was once called Fairbrook, a name tied to its postal and railroad past: a post office opened near Tadpole School in 1887, and Fairbrook became the last station on the western half of the Lewisburg and Tyrone Railroad. The railroad later became the Fairbrook Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Today the place is spread across farmland and small residential developments, with Ferguson Township supplying the local government and Fairbrook Park marking the old Tadpole Road area. State College is the nearby regional center; Ramblewood's own map remains a township landscape of fields, roads, and scattered homes. School, mail, and rail once organized Fairbrook; their traces still give Ramblewood its clearest historical thread.
