About Ratamosa
Ratamosa is a Cameron County census-designated place of 197 residents in the 2020 census, about 10 miles west of Harlingen and five miles northwest of La Feria near the Hidalgo County line. It sits in the lower Rio Grande Valley, where residential roads meet irrigated fields and the broad network of towns around the Brownsville-Harlingen area. Solis borders the community to the south.
La Feria Independent School District serves Ratamosa, and South Texas Independent School District provides another school connection through its magnet programs. Homes sit among farm roads, irrigation ditches, and valley fields, with La Feria close enough to supply many daily destinations. The region's school buses and rural roads tie the community to a larger working landscape. The community first appeared as a census-designated place in 2000, when the census counted 218 residents. Today its identity comes from the roads between La Feria and Harlingen, the surrounding agricultural landscape, and the school systems that connect a small residential settlement to the wider valley.
