Raymond, OH

Raymond is a Union County census-designated place in eastern Liberty Township, centered on the crossing of State Routes 347 and 739. The settlement was first called Newton when it was laid out in 1838, and the post office adopted the Raymond name after several early postmasters carried it. There is no separate municipal government; Raymond works as a crossroads and the unofficial administrative center of the township.

Raymond Elementary School gives the place a strong community institution, with a history reaching back to an 1824 log schoolhouse and the one-room schools that followed. The Marysville Exempted Village Schools district serves local students, while roads connect Raymond to Marysville, Mechanicsburg, and the farms of Union County. The old Newton name still survives in local history. A post office, school traffic, township meetings, and nearby farm lanes make the small center legible in daily use.
