Redby, MN

Redby sits along the southern shore of Lower Red Lake in northern Minnesota, home to around 1,300 residents. Known in Ojibwe as Madaabiimog, it is one of the primary communities within the Red Lake Indian Reservation. Families here are served by the Red Lake School District, with elementary and secondary schools just down the road, while tribal programs and community centers support everyday life.

As part of the sovereign Red Lake Nation, land is held communally by the tribe, which manages its own government, essential services, and local college. Redby has long served as an industrial and working center for the reservation, best known for its timber history and the tribal fishery that processes fresh Red Lake walleye. It remains a quiet, lakeside town deeply rooted in Ojibwe culture and community ties.
