Redland, TX

Redland is an Angelina County community in the pineywoods southeast of Lufkin, where a place name can carry more history than a municipal boundary suggests. The settlement’s school began after the Civil War in a one-room log cabin, moved into a frame building in 1903, and gained a brick building in 1914–15. That schoolhouse served as the practical center of the community for decades. The Liberty Redland Baptist Church adds another thread to the story: its members dismantled a building in Diboll and rebuilt it here in 1939.

Redland’s present-day setting is still tied to county roads, pine timber, church life, and the Lufkin area’s services. The old school’s memory remains active through a historical marker and the school bell, reminders of the students and families who once gathered on the campus. Redland Church Road gives the community a name on the county road map, while Angelina County’s larger landscape runs from working forest toward the Neches River country. For a small census-designated place, Redland’s strongest sense of place comes from the institutions neighbors built and maintained together.
