Redmond, OR

The Horse Lava Tube System enters Redmond at the Redmond Caves, and the lava flow that formed it continues toward Redmond Canyon and Crooked River Ranch. Frank T. Redmond settled in the area in 1905; the city took his name and incorporated in 1910. The High Desert city recorded 33,274 residents in 2020. A U.S. Army air base operated there during the 1940s, followed by commercial service at Roberts Field after World War II. Roberts Field is the only Central Oregon airport with commercial passenger flights. Its Redmond Air Center is a U.S. Forest Service smoke-jumping, firefighting, and training installation.
