About Redwood
Redwood is a Guadalupe County census-designated place on Cottonwood Creek and Farm Road 1978, north of Seguin and close to San Marcos. The 2020 census counted 4,003 residents. Texas State Highway 123 forms the western edge, running five miles north to San Marcos and 16 miles south to Seguin, the county seat. Redwood began as a post-office and school community: a post office operated from 1895 to 1906, and three one-teacher schools served 91 students in 1904. The road network still does the basic organizing.
Cottonwood Creek gives the place its natural edge, FM 1978 carries the local traffic, and SH 123 connects Redwood to the two nearby city centers. Seguin brings county government; San Marcos is the closest larger city to the north. Redwood itself stays rural and spread out, with the old school-and-post-office story sitting underneath a current road corridor. Redwood's local scoop is a Guadalupe County crossroads whose creek, roads, and two nearby cities make the geography easy to read.
