Tucked away in Hidalgo County near the southern tip of Texas, Relampago is a tiny rural community steeped in Rio Grande Valley history. Home to just over a hundred residents, it offers wide-open skies and quiet countryside living surrounded by agricultural fields. The settlement dates back to the 1850s, when early ranchers and traders established a stop along the historic military and stagecoach route between Brownsville and Rio Grande City.

Its name comes from the Spanish word for lightning, borrowed from the 19th-century ranch that first anchored the community. Today, Relampago retains that easygoing borderland character shaped by generations of farming, ranching, and close ties along the river corridor.
