About Remington

Remington is a Jasper County town that began as Carpenter Station, a farming settlement beside Carpenter's Creek. The railway was already in place when the town took shape: the Logansport, Peoria & Burlington Railway depot was built in 1859, trains began running in January 1860, and the town's name later changed to Remington, perhaps after a local store owner. Remington held its first town meeting in 1869. U.S. 24, U.S. 231, and Interstate 65 now define the modern map. Remington is an Indiana town with a very literal origin story - creek, depot, and a name that changed after the rails arrived.
