It grew up in the late 19th century as a railroad stop and agricultural crossroads, once bustling with local stores, planting outfits, and its own post office. Today, it is home to just over a hundred residents who enjoy wide-open farmland and a peaceful, slow-paced setting a short drive outside Clarksdale. Baseball fans also know the area as the birthplace of Negro league pitcher Pepper Sharpe.
