Renningers, PA

Renningers is a census-designated community in North Manheim Township, a section of south-central Schuylkill County framed by Second Mountain to the north and Blue Mountain to the south. The township was formed in 1845 from Manheim Township and sits in Pennsylvania’s Appalachian and Valley Province. Renningers has no separate borough government; its local life runs through the township, the Blue Mountain School District, and the long north–south corridor of Route 61.

That setting carries more history than the small place name suggests. North Manheim was once agricultural country, and it also held the first canal tunnel in the United States, built for the Schuylkill Navigation Company. Today the township mixes homes, farms, and industrial activity near Route 61, with Pottsville, Schuylkill Haven, Cressona, and Orwigsburg close by. Renningers is best understood through that larger map: a named community in a mountain valley, tied to township services and school routes, with the Blue Mountain and Second Mountain ridges holding the horizon.
