About Reno city (Lamar County)
Reno is a Lamar County town on U.S. Highway 82 next to Paris in Northeast Texas. The community sits at a highway and former rail crossing, with the town's streets folding into the larger Paris area while retaining its own municipal line. North Lamar schools and nearby farm roads tie Reno to the Red River region.
The Texas and Pacific Railway reached the area in 1876, and Reno may have begun as a switching station. Records from the 1880s and 1890s use both Davis and Reno around the post office, while a general store and grocery served the community by 1891. The post office ended in 1907, but Reno kept its schools and local businesses, incorporated in 1968, and grew alongside Paris. Today U.S. 82, city services, North Lamar connections, churches, homes, and small businesses make up the local map. Reno has the feel of a town whose railroad-era name stayed put while the highway and metro around it kept changing.
