Reynolds, IN

Reynolds is a town in Honey Creek Township, White County, Indiana, built around the railroad that reached the site in the 1850s. The 2020 census counted 531 residents. North White School Corporation serves local students, and the town sits within the farm country between Lafayette, Purdue University, and the smaller communities of northwestern Indiana. Its streets remain close to the rail-era pattern that gave Reynolds its start. The old railroad still shapes the town’s location and its daily connections.

The town was named for Benjamin Reynolds, one of its founders. In 2005, state agriculture officials selected Reynolds for BioTown, USA, a pilot project focused on local energy: ethanol and biodiesel vehicles, animal waste converted into electricity and natural gas, and a community-scale approach to fuel. The project gave a small railroad town an unusual place in Indiana’s energy conversation. Reynolds remains a White County town with a school district, farm roads, and a memorable experiment in turning local production into local power.
