Rhodhiss, NC

Rhodhiss got its start as a classic Carolina mill village in the early 1900s along the upper Catawba River. Its name comes directly from founders John Rhodes and George Hiss, who built the original dam, textile plant, and worker cottages. Over the years, the local mill produced everything from everyday fabrics to the specialized material used for the American flag planted on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission. That heritage still shapes the character and layout of the town.

Today, Rhodhiss is a peaceful, scenic spot split between Caldwell and Burke counties by the river. Daily life revolves around the water, with Lake Rhodhiss and neighborhood parks offering easy access to boating, fishing, and quiet walking trails along the shore.
