Rice is a quiet Navarro County community of around 1,200 people, sitting right along Interstate 45 about 45 miles south of Dallas and ten miles north of Corsicana. The community got its start in the 1870s as a railroad stop and agricultural hub, named after William Marsh Rice, the same railroad investor who went on to endow Rice University in Houston.
