Rich Square, NC

Rich Square grew around the Quaker meeting established here in 1760, and the town remains a Northampton County crossroads on the US 258 corridor. Main Street carries US 258 past Town Hall at 109 N Main Street, the town annex, Rich Square Market, and the water tower. The old meeting grounds give the place its earliest shape; later streets add churches, a feed store, and the W.S. Creecy school site. William Spencer Creecy served as principal of the local school for African American children, tying the present-day school name to a central part of the town's 20th-century history.

Daily business is concentrated around a handful of civic stops. Town Hall handles water service and town meetings, while Farmer's Feed & Supply, Rich Square Market, and Claudine's Restaurant give Main Street a few practical places to stop. The W.S. Creecy Gym is used as the town storm shelter during severe weather. Rich Square's local map runs from the Quaker meeting to US 258, then across the town hall, school, churches, and water tower that still serve the surrounding farm country.
