Richburg, NY

Richburg is a quiet, close-knit village tucked away in rural Allegany County, just east of Olean. Home to around 400 residents, it offers a peaceful, small-town setting alongside an interesting local history. Back during the regional oil boom of the 1880s, the village briefly became a bustling hub, even drawing L. Frank Baum, the future author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, who managed an opera house in town. Today, daily life is much calmer, with Little Genesee Creek gently winding past backyards and nearby woods.

Getting around the area is simple, with Route 275 serving as Main Street and linking the community directly to neighboring towns. Families will find Bolivar-Richburg Elementary right in the heart of the village, while older students attend the shared junior-senior high school just a short drive away in Bolivar. With its relaxed atmosphere, scenic green spaces, and friendly neighborhood feel, Richburg offers an easygoing spot to settle down in western New York.
