Richmond, MN

Richmond is a Stearns County city in central Minnesota, about 12 miles west of Interstate 94 on Highway 23. The 2020 census counted 1,475 residents. Reuben Richardson platted the town in 1856, when it was still part of Munson Township, and the city grew around a landscape of Sauk River lakes, granite quarries, and farm roads. State Highway 22 ends in Richmond at Highway 23, making the city a meeting point for routes across the county.

The Sauk River Chain of Lakes gives Richmond its most distinctive physical feature, with parks, fishing spots, public swimming, and the River Lakes Civic Arena gathered around the water-and-school network. The Glacial Lakes State Trail follows a former Burlington Northern railroad grade through the city and continues toward Willmar, Spicer, New London, and Hawick. Local school and hockey programs use the arena, while parks such as Lions Park, Centennial Park, and Rich River Nature Park keep the river corridor in the daily map. Richmond combines a highway junction, quarry country, lake communities, and a rail trail in a compact Stearns County setting.
