Ridge, NY

Ridge is a hamlet and census-designated place in Suffolk County, at the northwestern end of the Long Island Central Pine Barrens. A sign in the hamlet reflects that Pine Barrens identity, and the Carmans River adds another important natural feature nearby. The area traces part of its history to William Tangier Smith's 1693 land purchase. Ridge is served by the Longwood Central School District, the largest school district on Long Island by area, which fits its spread-out, wooded character.
