Ridgeside, TN

Ridgeside is a 446-person city on the eastern slope of Missionary Ridge, completely surrounded by Chattanooga and about four miles east of downtown. The city grew from dairy farmland and the Shepherd Hills and Crescent Park subdivisions laid out in the 1920s. Ridgeside incorporated in 1925 and held onto its city government through later annexation pressure, leaving Chattanooga with a small independent enclave on the ridge. The Civil War landscape is close by, but Ridgeside's own built story is mostly about neighborhood development, roads, and its position above the metro.

Ridgeside Park, the pool, pickleball courts, pavilions, and community room give the city its own places for everyday gathering. The city history records a June picnic tradition dating to 1942, candlelight events, a swim team, and newer park improvements, including native plantings and pickleball added in the 2020s. Chattanooga supplies the wider metropolitan setting, while Ridgeside handles its own municipal routines inside the same urban fabric. The local oddity is straightforward: a tiny city with its own civic address, enclosed by Chattanooga on every side.
