Ridgeway, VA

Ridgeway is a Henry County town where U.S. 220, Virginia 87, and the Martinsville-area road network meet near the North Carolina line. The town was chartered in 1890, and Martinsville Speedway sits inside its limits, giving a small municipality a place on the NASCAR calendar and a steady connection to the wider Southside Virginia region. Marrowbone Creek drains the north side toward the Smith River, so the local map shifts quickly from highway frontage to wooded creek country.

The town's older landmarks add another layer. Belleview and Ingleside are listed on the National Register, and Ingleside stands near Marrowbone Creek in a late-nineteenth-century house surrounded by the rural landscape outside the center. A marker south of town recalls William Byrd II's 1728 surveying party, which passed through while tracing the Virginia-North Carolina dividing line. For daily errands, Martinsville is about eight miles north; Eden, North Carolina, is about eight miles southeast.
