Riegelsville, PA

Along the Delaware River in northeastern Bucks County, Riegelsville grew from a ferry crossing into a canal-and-mill village. Benjamin Riegel's family gave the place its name, and the Delaware Canal opened in 1832, bringing coal, crops, iron, and mill goods through the river corridor. The borough sits across from the related Riegelsville, New Jersey, and the 1904 Riegelsville Bridge remains the most recognizable crossing in the local map. Riegelsville joined the Palisades School District after a long effort to leave the Easton Area School District; the borough's western farmland had already been separated from the rest of Easton's territory. Today the riverfront, canal, bridge, and older mill-era buildings make the borough easy to read. Riegelsville is a small Philadelphia-metro address that still looks toward the Delaware and the Lehigh Valley at the same time.
